For over a century, the Samuel N. and Mary Castle Foundation has engaged in strong public policy advocacy for high quality, affordable, and universal early education. From our 19th and 20th century advocacy for innovative, progressive kindergartens to our 21st-century advocacy for universal public preschools in Hawaii, we have opted to promote children’s and families’ well-being. Our state has benefited from several collaborative foundation promotions of early education and, consequently, Hawaii has enjoyed substantial public investment for our families and our keiki.
My Early Education Funders Collaborative colleague Dr. Sara Watson has provided foundations a convenient set of recommendations for effectiveness in charitable foundation advocacy with generous support from the Bainum Foundation. Philanthropists who wish to enlarge their early childhood education impact and any other missions should gain considerable insight by reviewing her document. Dr. Watson is nationally respected for her policy and advocacy work for the Bainum Foundation in Washington, DC. I am honored to present her booklet below.
